Circuit gîte to gîte

Enfant sur le chemin du cirque de Cagateille

Rambling Starting from l’Escolan you find yourself directly on family walks or hikes towards mountain lakes, frontier peaks and summits. Escolan is also a stage on the GR10 and the Tour de Pays du Val de Garbet, both established trails. We suggest you try circuits gite to gite, rambling or on all-terrain bikes, with full board and your luggage transported. “ In a flea’s jump” you will discover the Haut-Couserans every new season: le cirque de Cagateille, la réserve du Mont-Valier, la cascade d’Ars, l’étang de Lhers, la vallée de Bethmale.

Snow-shoeing
In winter walks at the base of the valley are often possible even without show shoes. A show-shoe itinerary allows you to do a tour of the stationBalade en raquettes feeling very much in contact with nature. You can hire them on site or at the village of Seix. Lots of wild sites like le plateau d'Ajéou, le cirque de Cagateille and lots of mountains allow those who are familiar with snow covered mountains to enjoy this activity, taking account of course of the snow conditions and avalanche risks at the time.

Ski and Surf
Guzet is a pleasant, modern family ski resort above Ustou. It offers down hill ski slopes, a snow-shoe circuit, and activities like dog sledging and “baptism” into paragliding are also on offer.

Downhill Skiing
The resort of Lhers offers a very pleasant Nordic setting with good snow, but with the direct route by the Col d'Agnès being closed, the detour via Massat takes about an hour by car. Some freedom lovers go off-piste around le Col de la Core.

Rafting dans le SalatWhite water sports
With clubs like Passeur de Vague or le Kayak-club at Couserans you can discover rafting or canoeing. Horizon Vertical will initiate you into canyoning in the cirque de Cagateille and elsewhere. For contact details look at the divers information button.

Mountain climbing
Numerous rails have been put in place at several sites and are well documented in a topographical guide. You can discover these with your own gear, or under instruction with Horizon Vertical.VTT à Cominac

Mountain biking
A topographical guide shows you the routes around Cominac, the GR10 and the tour of the area will arouse great emotions in circuits gîte to gîte or on day trips around the gite. At the gite there are four standard and one child’s mountain bike for hire, along with two house route-maps around the gite for you to follow.

You can also do horse riding, donkey treks, paragliding, fishing, fruit picking, tennis, swimming in the pool, or relaxing in the thermals of Aulus. If that’s not enough, how about petanque and jogging?

And Escolan has even more to offer. On site you will find table tennis, a volley ball or badminton court, a trampoline of 3metres diameter, a children’s climbing frame and a small library notably with books on flora and fauna and local natural history.
