Synopsis:
The Bear Leaders is a unique legacy of the misery that this country suffered in past times. Stories of the “Mossu” abound between the valleys of Erse and Ustou (bears were often called “Monsieur” in the local dialect or patois.) Here in the Haut-Couserans you will discover that country and nature are intimately linked and at the same time greatly in opposition . In the evening, whether in the comfort of a Rondo ‘Plume or the informality of a staging gite, you will always be welcomed in the simple and convivial ambiance of a family home.
Day 1: You arrive during the day a the Rando ‘Plume La Bernadole. Raymond will explain to you the itinerary for the next day and provide you with your annotated map and FFRP topographic guide. Dinner with your host and a good night will prepare you well for the week’s trek ahead of you.
Day 2: The first stage is a good warm-up and will lead you gently to the Rando ‘Plume La Comte. It takes 4 hours and you will have climbed 600m.
Day 3: Serious things are about the begin and you have the challenge of le col Dret above the plateau of Lhers. You then reach the thermal village of Aulus-les-Bains. Helene and Christophe wait to welcome you at Le Presbytere. This stage takes 7 hours and a height difference of 900m.
Day 4: For this stage you’ll take a turn on the GR10 (path of the “grande randonnee” that traverses the Pyrenees from the Atlantic to the Mediteranian) to reach the Rando ‘Plume Escolan where France and Yann welcome you along with their whole family (kids, dog, cat). You can either take an extra day here to rest a while, or move on to the high mountains. 6 hours, height difference 850m.
Day 5: Your destination is the gite at Aunac, with a stage that doesn’t rise too muc but covers a great distance. Welcome chez Claudine and Francois. 7.30 hours, height difference 750m.
Day 6: On this last day you can cover more of less ground as you choose to get back to your car chez Raymond. 5.30 hours, height difference of 750m.
The price is 319€ based
on two people for the 6 day stay.
